A publication of the American Communication Association
Commissioned by the American Communication Association's Board of Directors at the 1996 Annual Convention in historic Charleston, South Carolina, The American Communication Journal is a completely online, blind-reviewed publication, dedicated to the conscientious analysis and criticism of significant communicative artifacts. Appreciating the diversity of research agendas and methodologies in the study of communication, the Co-Editors and Editorial Board of ACJ welcome submissions on any topic related to the discipline.
ACJ is unique in that it: (1) is exclusively a world-wide-web (WWW) publication, and (2) therefore provides the scholar with the opportunity to hypertextually reference supporting materials available online. In such a journal, the researcher is free to present his or her findings in an interactive multimedia environment, making use of the entire spectrum of computer-mediated data. Redefining that which has been traditionally recognized as a "text," the ACJ liberates publication from the physical and financial firewalls of print by placing the academic work online, complete with much material previously relegated to a footnote, endnote, or the futile "see also." Audio, video, graphics, virtual reality, live interactivity -- are all at the researcher's supportive disposal. The learning opportunities are as infinite and immediate as the researcher's creativity and reader's bandwidth will allow. In short, the purpose of ACJ is to create an interactive digital canvas, upon which communication scholars may articulate their thoughts, arguments, and findings in pedagogically rich and meaningful ways.
For more about ACJ's mission, see the Concepts & Calls section of the Submission page.
