I wrote this song in November 2002 when I was trying to come up with an appropriate tribute to my dear friend Art.  I recalled a snowy night in Syracuse, NY where I had mistakenly left the throughway and was desperate to find my way back home.

Thoroughly disoriented and confused, I approached an idling police car to get directions back to the throughway.  When I presented my dilemma, the cop stood from his car, fixed me with a steely gaze and asked me, "Do you believe in signs?"

After pondering this semi-metaphysical querry for a brief second, I confessed that I did not.  He directed me to make a illegal U-turn followed by an illegal right turn onto the southbound entrance ramp.

Many years later, the people I cherish and enjoy most in this life are the ones who are willing to ignore the obvious signs in pursuit of higher aspirations.  Art is one such person, and this song is a testimony to a life lived on the forefront of thought and expression.
